Key information for both users and decision makers regarding Xerox DocuShare and ABBYY
recognition products.
ABBYY FlexiCapture 9.0 Release 4 is
available (Build 9.0.4.2510). We recommend you read
the release notes and see if it repairs or augments
anything that relates to actual issues and concerns
of yours. If not, consider not upgrading. You can
download the software and notes from
http://www.abbyydownloads.com/fc9
Our DAVupDoc content uploader program has been
updated to run on Windows 2008 Server and Windows 7.
While it runs in 32 bit mode, it will gracefully
install on 64 bit Windows operating systems. If
you're using DocuShare's VFS (Virtual File System)
add-on, you can use DAVupDoc to file your documents
where you want them, titled as you like, with
metadata, and expiration and deletion dates set for
archiving and destruction. This is template based
with a template designer to reduce your learning
curve. You can then run it in command line mode using
the VBscripts provided so background production mode
is provided. We'd like to hear from you if you're
using VFS as we're considering adding some
functionality for such sites. Contact us for details.
You'll find DAVupDoc at
CriteriaFirstWare.
This was just released and is cumulative of all the
prior patches and updates for version 6.5.3. We've
installed it on our primary DocuShare server. You'll
find it on the DocuShare User Group site:

If your DocuShare site has grown quite a lot over the
years, you may be interested in the DocuShare 6.5.3
High Scalability Kit which is recommended for any
customer solution expecting to scale to more than
five million documents. The kit includes:
-
multiple IDOL indexing engine instances
-
distributed (off-box) search engine
-
multiple content storage volumes / drive letters
-
partitioned database for performance / scale
-
enhanced DS Software Support
-
optional professional services support
Any DocuShare or DocuShare CPX customer who upgrades
to DocuShare 6.5.3 (or who has upgraded to DocuShare
6.5.3) is entitled to receive the High Scalability
Option for DocuShare 6.5 at no additional cost, but
you must pay the annual support and maintenance for
the High Scalability Option. This is required to be
implemented in conjunction with Xerox DocuShare
Professional Services, so there will be a charge
added for such services.
You may also want to consider moving much of your
content to a DocuShare Archive Server to reduce the
load on your primary DocuShare server. You'll likely
want our DocuShare Archive Assistant to sweep through
your collections and set the expiration_date property
for archival and to set a deletion date property for
eventual deletion. For more information, refer to
your DocuShare User Guide and the section titled
"Archiving Content". Call or write if you have
questions or concerns.
DocuShare CPX provides a wizard to guide you in
creating a content rule. Using the wizard, you
provide a brief description of the content rule,
select the event that triggers the action, select the
action to run, and enter settings specific to the
selected action. You can sense new or changed
documents; initiate either document routing slips or
advanced workflows configured for gathering
contributions, getting approval(s), and notifying
others; and export your documents for external
processes. Content Rules can play a key part in your
daily work processes. Check your DocuShare User Guide
for the "Using content rules" section and call if
you'd like an overview.

and why this customer decided to use DocuShare as his
organization's centralized repository.
"SharePoint requires more
work and custom programming, therefore more time and
money, than DocuShare."
