Key information for decision makers regarding new
minor release Xerox DocuShare 6.5.3 and ABBYY
Recognition Server 2.0 r 11.
Xerox has just released DocuShare 6.5.3
bringing new levels of scalability. DocuShare
6.5.3 replaces version 6.5.2 and resolves the content
indexing issues with DocuShare 6.5 upgrades.
This new release
has additional scalability options that may be
beneficial to sites with more than 5 million
documents, especially those in which much or most of
the content is indexed for full-text search. It
will also support new versions of OS and database
platforms.
What’s New
- Improvements to maximize the effectiveness of
the search engine, including a more robust indexing
process and better error tracking. These
improvements ensure that content indexing completes
without failure and that indexing coverage is
maximized.
- Several resource-intensive tasks, such as
changing the permissions, owner, or location of
large amounts of content, were redesigned for
optimal utilization of system resources and memory,
eliminating out-of-memory errors.
- Support for SQL Server 2008 SP1 database
- Support for Windows 2008 Server R2 (64-bit)
The DocuShare User
Group (DoUG) site collection for Downloads has the
upgrade.

The language packs for DE Deutsch,
ES Español, and FR Français are also available.
We're told that the DocuShare Client 6.5 for
Windows 7 64-bit should be available by the end
of May at:

You may have to create an account for yourself to
access this area. DocuShare Client 6.5 will add
support for 64-bit terminal servers (Windows Terminal
Service, Remote Desktop Services, & Citrix) in the
remote desktop edition. Xerox will not be
supporting the DocuShare Client on Windows XP X64;
this has been a stated position for over a year now.
They are currently supporting Windows Vista 32 bit
with DocuShare Client version 6.0.6 and 6.0.7.
DocuShare CPX made more accessible
The minimum number of CALs needed for CPX has just
been lowered from 50
to 20. This opens the
opportunity for your power users and automation tools
to extend their reach into advanced workflow
processes. Xerox brochures cover these advanced
features pretty well and you can also benefit from
the comparison document on our site:
Product Comparison - DocuShare 6 to CPX 6.

New FileServer
to DocuShare Upload Tool
We'd recently helped one of our DocuShare Tool
resellers to upload the contents of a customer's file
server into DocuShare with their hierarchy intact.
We leverage the content intake module by uploading
documents in chunks of 500 files at a time.
We'd discovered there are quite a few subtleties
involved in this and we believe we have the kinks
worked out. They'd previously tried uploading
everything using the including DSUpload tool from
Xerox, but our new FS2DS utility is noted to
be much faster. Let us know if you have a lot
of content you'd like to move into DocuShare; we'll
have a method that works for you.
